WELCOME TO HIGHLY EVOLVED
I know I know, you're probably thinking, "Good lorddddd that is the most unoriginal title ever." Actually, as I was searching for Vines sites, all I could see were "The Vines Unofficial UK Site Translated in Chinese" and what not, so I decided to name it after their album. Naming it after one song would not catch all the aspects of the band. Speaking of the band, this site is dedicated to quite possibly one of the greatest bands there are, The Vines. Their music is wonderful and very inspiring. I fell in love with their music over the summer of 2002 and eventually, it led to this web site. This site is more focused on Craig, however, because he is possibly my greatest influence and a huge inspiration to me. From the way he performs, to his views on music to the band's music and his passion for creating music/art..etc. It's great. I didn't want to make another site dedicated to just one person (Like my Rivers site) so I decided to cover the entire band. Anyway, kick back, relax and hope you enjoy the site.
You are currently viewing version two (finally a new version) of Highly Evolved. It features images illustrated/animated by me from my own crazy, discombobulated head. To read more about it click here.
The Vines have overcome the traumas of recent years and completed their third album. The band have just ended a four-week stint in Sydney's BJB studios with producer Wayne Connerly, and made an album he says is "edgier and wilder". The sessions mark a return to action for The Vines, who looked on the verge of collapse when front man Craig Nicholls was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome.
"There's a bunch of different styles on this record", Connerly told NME. "Craig's got a bit of that space-rock stuff, but he's also got some intense wild punk rock. There's some pop stuff with strings too. He's always been a big fan of that lush production."
Working titles include "Nothing's Coming", "Any Sound" and "Take Me Back". Relations within the band are fine too, says Connerly.
"The morale's been great. Craig doesn't really devote himself to the serious issues of the day, he devotes most of his energy to hiding behind doors and scaring people. It's great to see his eccentric, playful side."
Bassist Patrick Matthews has played no role in the making of the album since his side project Youth Group took off. However, the rest of the band say he's welcome to rejoin them if he wants to.
The album is expected to be released next year, though management have gone on record as saying that the band will "never" go on a traditional tour again.
